She’s tall enough to pass for much older. Tall enough to ride roller coasters, and she loves them.
Yesterday she was busy exercising her sassy attitude, which is seldom appreciated by her parents. I asked her to go to her room and when I went up to chat with her about her attitude, she informed me, “I’m too big for time outs.”
“You probably are,” I said, “but I don’t think you’ll like the alternative. Because once you are truly too big for time outs, then I’ll have to start taking away privileges when you make bad choices.”
“Like what?” Annabella nearly whispered, looking at me like I’d threatened her very existence.
“Like your Leapster, movies or your computer time.” It is so hard to maintain the level of earnestness required for these discussions.
“But Mom,” Annabella piped up, “what if you get really mad and take away my refreshments, along with my beverages?”

On the way home from the Y today, Annabella sang us a lovely song. I have it on video and will get that posted when I can.
When Bel was done with her song, Red started making some singsong kind of noises, ending with what sounded like beatbox noise.
I said, “Dude, what’s with the beatbox?”
Annabella chimed in, “Mommy what’s a beatbox? Is that some kind of spitting?”
“Redding,” I say, “are you spitting in my car?”
“I sorry, Mommom. I need to get my junk out.”
“Junk?” I wonder aloud. “You need to get your junk out?”
“I need to put my junk out. My junk is stuck. Mom, I got a lot of junk.”
My son. He has a lot of junk.
I hope Uncle Dennis is laughing at this right now. Because I don’t think I ever heard junk used quite so profusely until Dennis came to visit Andrew and I in California after he graduated from college.

Annabella asked me the other day if she could play her new game: Hella Fun. A.K.A. Elefun .
The second leads me to a solid fact: The kid has been listening to way too many adult songs on Guitar Hero. Annabella, “Daddy, will you talk dirty to me?”
She loves the song in spite of, or maybe because of, the fact that Andrew told her it was about pigs and how dirty they are.
I see therapy in her future. Serious long term therapy.
